This is a brief guide to the different types of holiday homes in Spain
Apartment
A single level property, usually built in blocks. Most apartments in spain have an outside balcony or terrace. Larger apartment buildings sometimes have a communal swimming pool, landscaped gardens and other amenities such as a tennis court. Apartments are very typical holiday homes in Spain.
Bungalow
Single storey, ground floor or first floor properties which are often built in terraces. A bungalow may come with a roof terrace (first floor bungalow) or garden (ground floor bungalow). Frequently a bungalow development has a communal swimming pool. Bungalows are most popular holiday homes in Spain.
Duplex
Two storey properties sometimes combined with an apartment building. Most commonly, duplexes have ground floor access. Duplexes often have a small garden and a roof terrace. Communal swimming pools and landscaped gardens are common features.
Corner House (Quadro)
Like semi-detached houses, but with blocks of four houses joined together.
Semi Detached House
Houses with one or more stories built in pairs. Each normally having its own garden.
Villa
Spanish villas are detached houses of one or more with its own plot of land.

Costa Blanca

The Costa Blanca is the South Eastern region of Spain and boasts some of the best beaches in the country. As a coastal region, the Costa Blanca is famous for its seafood and fish, which are caught daily by local fishermen. This region of Spain has been one of the most popular with tourists and holiday goers for quite some time and continues to have a thriving tourist industry today. With warm Mediterranean Sea on one side and the protection of the Crevillente Mountains to the West, the Costa Blanca is a sheltered paradise where fresh vegetables and fruits thrive in the mild protected climate. This region of Spain is famous for its Valencian oranges and lemons.

The Costa Blanca is now one of the most cosmopolitan areas in Europe with a coastline untouched by blatant tourism. Inland, hillsides covered with terraced vineyards and lush - green citrus orchards - testament of the agricultural traditions - are dotted with pretty towns full of narrow streets leading down to flower - filled squares.
At the center of the White Coast is cosmopolitan Alicante, with its magnificent palm-fringed waterfront promenade, the Esplanada de España, and first-class shops and restaurants. Lying between Alicante and Murcia, on the banks of the River Segura, is the historic town of Orihuela, famous for its market gardens and splendid baroque cathedral. Within 20 kms of Orihuela is a stretch of coastline (Orihuela Costa) studded with small bays, and home to three championship courses - Campoamor, Las Ramblas and Villamartin. The climate in the Costa Blanca region is more moderate than in the interior of Spain however temperatures still soar up into the 30's in summer, while the winters bring more moderate temperatures reaching a pleasant 18 degrees Celsius in December and January.

Costa Calida

The main feature of Costa Cálida is Mar Menor (the little sea) which is the inland sea separated from the Mediterranean by La Manga del Mar Menor or La Manga strip.
The La Manga Peninsular is over 18 Kms long and stretches from the fishing village of Cabo de Palos to the salt flats of San Pedro del Pinatar. Only one road takes you along the "Strip" which although very busy in July and August can seem almost deserted outside these times. Both sides of La Manga Strip have something to offer. The Mediterranean side with its magnificent sandy beaches and the Mar Menor with its warm shallow waters that is ideal for children and for enjoying your favorite water sports. During the summer months you'll find various different water sports available at many different locations along the strip including: water-skiing, jet biking, sailing and scuba diving.
The La Manga Golf Club is very well known with its three 18 Holes Golf Courses and luxury hotels and restaurants.
The fascinating port of Cartagena, the region's second city, has a history stretching back over 3.000 years and features some of the most important collections of Punic Roman and Byzantine remains in Spain. Part of the heritage is kept at the Municipal Archeological Museum and Maritime Archeology Museum featuring the most varied and best-kept examples of 18th Century military architecture in the Mediterranean including the "Peral Submarine" and the "Capitania". Cartagena is also a great venue for a spot of shopping especially for fashion and jewellery.
